Spring may be winding down but Traindame and the Traingineer’s traveling schedule is just getting warmed up!
This past weekend I joined Chief Traingineer, Roger Farkash, to check in, talk trains and break bread with three of our dear custom layout clients…
First stop – Huntsville, Texas where we found Don MacCormack focused on enhancements to his layout in preparation for a Layout Tour Bus full of ‘Train Nuts’ from the Houston TCA National Conventional who will have the pleasure to experience Don’s custom layout, Wednesday June 22nd. Roger assisted with some scenic landscaping and poured water to a creek underneath the Erie bridge – I had some fun and video taped the lesson : ) Please feel free to watch instructional video on pouring in water here: Making water
Enjoy some photos from our first stop at Don’s:
Next stop was little further down the road to Shenandoah, Texas where Roger added some trees and landscaping for the final touches to Steve Tripp’s custom layout. I love what his wife had to say about Steve since the arrival of his layout last month; “He can’t stand to stay away from his train room, I know where I can find him!”
Also on the Houston TCA National Convention Layout tour will be Glen Rosenbaum’s Houston, Wharton & Pecos River Railroad, another custom layout by TW TrainWorx. You can see his layout Thursday, June 23rd and while you are there, be sure and get a picture taken with Traingineer, George Watson, who will be running trains on the HW&PR during the tour! Enjoy some past photos taken of the HW&PR …

TW TrainWorx is experiencing an incredible first half of 2016 with Traingineers traveling to; New York, Texas, Nebraska, California, and Pennsylvania for train events and custom layout installations.
This past April was particularly jam packed starting off with a custom 8′ x 20′ layout installation for our dear friend Skip in Suffern, NY – check out some process shots while on the studio floor:
Here are some shots of the installation taking place in Skip’s home…
From New York, Chief Traingineer, Roger Farkash, then met up with Traindame and Traingineer, Roy McClellan, at Spring York where its always fun to see old friends, meet new friends, talk trains, and happy to say, we came back with five solid leads for custom layouts!
Back in Texas, Traingineer George Watson, lead a crew and delivered a 5′ x 10′ custom layout just outside Houston. Here are some shots of the layout right before it loaded out and then settled in it’s new home:
The very next day the Traingineers and Traindame were off to Omaha for the Berkshire Hathaway Shareholder’s Meeting to put up the BNSF layout in the BNSF Booth. It’s always fun seeing Warren Buffett and his friends. This year Bill Gates had a special Virtual Reality Film Crew set up a shot right dab in front of the layout. Enjoy some photos from the BNSF Booth on the Convention floor, first up Bill Gates’ Virtual Reality Film Crew…
Chief Traingineer, Roger and Traingineer George SO Proud of 20 year T W Design/TrainWorx Lead Painter, Eugene, running trains and being part of the 2016 BHSM Traingineer team!
It’s not everyday you have the opportunity to make someone’s dream come true! Below you see the Mayor of Sacramento, and ex NBA player, Kevin Johnson, embracing Roger at the BNSF layout for having found just the man that can make his dream of an ‘Underground Railroad’ layout in his mother’s ‘Underground Bookstore’ come true… more on that as it develops : ) All and all – another fabulously, traintastic time was experienced at the 2016 Berkshire Hathaway Shareholder’s Meeting!
YIKES… Has it really been six months since my last post on my Traindame Blog?!?! That’s just plain CRAZY!!!!
I’ve been Facebooking… Tweeting… Emailing… Traveling… and daily opening up ‘Traintastic’ relationships but there’s simply *NO EXCUSE for neglecting my Traindame Blog!!!
Ok, so what is the best way to blog about my past six month experience?? How about a photo review – hold on, here we go!
November/December 2014 was Trains at NorthPark time!
G. Rosenbaum enjoyed several gatherings at his home sharing his custom layout:
Next stop, Chattanooga Tennessee for Dr. Sawrie’s S Gauge installation:
Trainworld/Trainland had a TrainWorx Custom layout just in time for the holidays!
The Smith’s visited the TrainWorx studio before installation of their custom attic layout in Kansas:
McNally’s custom layout (suspended from garage) was crated and then shipped to California:
Layout with a subway left Texas for New Jersey where J. Shapson installed it in his home:
Existing client, J. Morrison recently added a modular table with trailer included to his train collection and he wanted to “Roger-ize” it!
Another Jersey layout! On the studio floor now is the custom Hellgate table with added subway!
The Traingineers installed and then dismantled the Lionel Holiday Display at the Transit Museum inside the NY Grand Central Terminal but first it spent some time on the studio floor getting some branding updates, dusting & cleaning with our guest Traingineer, Dennis Brennan!
And finally… two new stations getting ready to debut at Spring York next week:
Denny T. started our jam packed month of April off by loading up his trailer with the TW TrainWorx Custom 5′ x 9′ Hellgate Table along with the
Lionel Arch Base to set up in his Louisiana cabin.
Load out day:
ALABAMA
Next up, loading the van for a road trip to Alabama to set up a custom table for
William P. in his train room:
PENNSYLVANIA
We had a great time at the York Spring Meet! Saw many old friends and made lots of new ones! Thanks to Eliot S. for sharing his fabulous photo book he put together showing off his incredible layout. Especially cool was having Roger sign the page with the Albuquerque/renamed Munoz Station 🙂
NEBRASKA
Closing out April and spilling into May is the BNSF Layout making it’s third appearance at the Berkshire Hathaway Shareholder’s Meeting. The big ole 53′ truck is loaded and on it’s way to Omaha where the Traingineers and I will be setting the layout up in the BNSF Booth in the Convention Center! Talk about a Fantabulous Train Layout Packed month!
TrainWorx Traingineers finished off an incredible October Overflow installing the custom TrainWorx layout for Railyard Hobbies, in Elverson, Pennyslvania. This is absolutely a definite MUST VISIT hobby store!

That’s right! The UP 4018 Big Boy was on the move yesterday on its way to Frisco, Texas where it will join the other Museum of the American Railroad trains!
Yesterday afternoon, Roger returned from the Lionel Customer Service open house to find out the move was on – so he got off the plane…jumped in the car…and tracked down the Big Boy just before sunset:
Get a load of these stats:
The Big Boy hits the scales at 1.2 Million pounds! Required 26 tons of coal, 25,000 gallons of water to be able to pull a 5 mile long train! Wowzers – that’s a BIG BOY.
I thought it’d be great to have the BIG BOY first make an appearance at our 2nd Annual Layout Festival but knew that’d be out of the question, however I’ve got the next best thing – representatives from the Museum of American Railroad will be on hand to share information on all the wonderful trains they have for their new Museum in Frisco. Plus we’ll have representatives from BNSF at the Festival who are the REAL TRAIN MOVERS getting the Big Boy to its new home!! Tonight (being July 17th ) at 7:00 pm, Roger Farkash will be giving one of his AMAZING and extremely educational seminars on “scenically making it happen on YOUR layout”… that would be my title of the seminar not sure the “official” title 🙂
Also on display at this year’s Convention is the Texas Scenic Modular Layout which incorporates the LCCA/Lionel Modular into a way cool layout which is catching on big time with modular train clubs across the country.
Here is a collage I did showing off our TrainWorx Modular *Coveralls:
I’ll be joining the Traingineers tomorrow and will be sure to update my blog with more photos and fun stories from my adventures at the LCCA Convention at the Choo Choo Chattanooga Hotel. (Don’t ya just smile at the name of the hotel??)
